How to find your personal mantra: 3 easy steps

You may already know that a mantra is a kind of personal motto, but possibly you’ve never thought about how to find YOUR personal mantra. Yet, having and repeating one is likely to bring you many positive benefits.

What is a mantra?

A mantra is a phrase or sentence you can say to yourself when things get tough or you just need a little boost. Think of it as a cheerleader in your mind, always ready to help you out.

Before we jump into how to create your own mantra, let’s talk about why you might want one. Our brains are wired towards survival, not thriving and happiness. And when we’re sad, scared, or just feeling a bit low, our minds automatically begin to think negative thoughts. This is where your mantra comes in.

By repeating a positive phrase, you can help shift your mind from focusing on negative thoughts to focusing on positive ones. It’s like throwing a pebble into a pond. The initial splash creates ripples that spread across the whole pond. Similarly, your mantra is like that pebble, creating positive ripples across your mind.

The inspiring thing about using a personal mantra is that you begin to incorporate it into your identity, and you’ll notice yourself beginning to live it.

Success Formula” how to find your mantra

Step 1: Think About What Matters to You

The first step is to think about the things that are important to you. What do you aspire to? What do you value the most in yourself and others? Is it bravery? Kindness? Hope? Honesty? Whatever it is, jot these thoughts down. These are the building blocks of your mantra.

Step 2: Keep It Short and Sweet

Now create a short, simple sentence that reflects what’s important to you.( It should be present tense, and easy to remember). If bravery is your thing, your mantra might be, “I am brave and strong “. If kindness, hope and freedom are your key values, your sentence could be, “I am free to choose kindness and hope”. Remember, there’s no right or wrong mantra. It just has to be something that feels right to you.

Step 3: Try It Out

Try out your mantra by saying it aloud to yourself a few times.  How does it make you feel? If it makes you feel good and helps you stay positive, then you’ve found your mantra. If not, it’s time to go back to step one and try again.

Step 4: Commit to it

Remember, finding your mantra is a journey, not a race. Take your time to find a phrase that feels like a perfect fit, and then commit to it. Make it the screen saver of your computer or phone, write it up and stick it on the mirror where you brush your teeth, and say it as often as you can.

Keep in mind that your mantra is like your own special cheerleader, helping you to build a positive mindset and feel good about yourself. So, why not give it a try?

Please share your mantra with me in the comments, I’d love to hear what you come up with for yourself.
